Whale watching tours operate between August and November.Hervey Bay is arguably the best location in the world to view the great humpback whale in it's natural environment. There are some 12 different whale watching operators to choose from. Each a little different. Tour Prices are all similar. Courtesy transport is included in all tours from Pialba Motor Inn.

Each year humpback whales migrate north from the cold Antartic waters to the South Pacific Islands. Here they mate and give birth, staying in the warm water until their calves fatten up. Around September whales begin migrating back, many whales stop off at Hervey Bay marine park for a period of time.
You may witness the following humpback whale behaviour
Breach A propelling whale turns to crash spectacularly on the water surface
Pectoral Slap The whale shows his fins and and slaps one or both fins
The blow Exhales forcefully through two blowholes on the top of it's head.
The Spy Hop Humpbacks use their eyes for orientation and navigation. This is when they poke just out of the water to take a look around above water.
Tail slap - A whale
is submerged vertically, and slap it's flukes on the surface of the water. Possibly
a threat signal, tail slapping might continue for long periods
